Brett Wood at the Enmore Theatre

Off the Leash: Music Festivals Australia on Brett Wood at the Enmore Theatre

Music Festivals Australia reviewed Brett Wood's support set at the Enmore Theatre, Sydney, on 18 July 2025. The Enmore is a landmark room that has hosted some of the great names in Australian and international music, and Wood walked onto its stage as a solo artist stepping out from close to twenty years as one of Australia's most trusted touring guitarists.

Wood played On Your Side, a song he has described as being about his divorce, alongside his single Eyes. Two pieces of writing from the personal end of his catalogue, placed in front of an audience who had come for someone else's show and found themselves listening to something else entirely.

Pete Murray addressed the partnership from the stage: "We've been doing this for 19 years." Wood, for his part, offered the line that has followed him across this run: "First time Pete's let me off the leash." It is a line with a true edge beneath the humour. Close to twenty years of shared stages, a relationship built on trust and craft, and now a musician using that foundation to step forward on his own terms.
